Streamer to fans: Don't quit day jobs to become Streamers

If you got personality and a good backing already, go for it. Honestly, though, what are these streamers futures? Not all of them can make enough to secure their retirement.
I agree, and most of them don't make the big bucks. I was friends with a full-time streamer, and he had 50+ people at all times watching him, and he said that he made $580+ a month and had to live with his parents.

That guy sounds screwed in some amount of years.

That's for sure, what's he going to do if something happens to his parents. Or better yet, what's he going to do when he needs to retire, what kind of Social Security check is he going to have?

It's not if, it's when. Parents do pass away unless they are rich and plan to leave him a ton of money.

Valkyre is just spitting common sense here. Everyone who streams today seems to think all they need to do is start streaming to get noticed, and that is completely untrue -especially on sites like Twitch and YouTube. Most famous streamers got started at least 7 to 10 years ago, when the market was very different. Valkyrae got in at the market peak, just like Ninja Dr. Disrespect, and every other famous streamer got famous from video content before they ever started streaming in the first place. (AsmondGold, Moist Cr1tical, DarksydePhil, ect.)

If you see a streamer that blew up recently, its because a notable moment of their stream got clipped, and redistributed on another platform. (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) and watched/shared by more famous content creators.

In short, streaming is not success; streaming is the byproduct of success, and you can't grow a streaming career by streaming. It just doesn't work. You grow a stream by marketing.

Think about it; There's literally tens of thousands of other streamers they could be watching before the market even realizes you exist. Why would they ever watch you? How are you gettting your name out there? How will they know to tune in to YOUR stream?

Thats why its best to do it as a hobby and not as a "job". If youre doing it as a job and not making money, youre not having fun.

I think there is a lot of things in life that this can apply to. Because if you get into a hobby, say forums for instance and you think you are going to retire from it. You are probably going to be disappointed when it doesn't make any money.

Yeah but a forum is essentially just a place to relax and chat with other people without the hassle of having to do anything. Now if it's a forum where you're selling products, I can see being disappointed.
